San Francisco Botanical Garden is operated by a public/private partnership between San Francisco Botanical Garden Society and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.

San Francisco Botanical Garden Society is the nonprofit support organization for San Francisco Botanical Garden and is responsible for education, visitor experience, fundraising, curation, and many other functions. Positions listed here are with San Francisco Botanical Garden Society.  

Horticulture positions are managed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Recruitment for those positions is administered by the San Francisco Department of Human Resources. More information on jobs with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department can be found here

 

Development Associate

Under the supervision of the Development Operations and Database Manager, the Development Associate will execute all gift and member processing and acknowledgements, assist with development and Garden-wide events, and offer administrative support to the development team of the San Francisco Botanical Garden. The Development Associate will join a development department totaling five team members who support over 3,500 member households. The development team is responsible for generating $2 million in contributed operating revenue annually, in addition to current and upcoming capital improvement campaigns. The development team currently produces two large fundraising events – Garden Feast and Flower Piano at Night Fundraiser, in addition to 8-10 donor cultivation events throughout the year.

Children's Garden Intern

Intern’s primary responsibility is to work with elementary students participating in a multi-visit garden program as well as assisting with occasional Saturday family programs.  Programs are based in the Children’s Garden, with vegetable beds, butterfly garden, sensory garden, orchard and a California natives garden. Intern will be responsible for some basic garden maintenance and will work with staff and volunteers and assist with mentoring a younger intern. Great opportunity to develop leadership, communication, and horticultural skills while helping the program and the Garden evolve and grow.

Garden Camp Counselor

San Francisco Botanical Garden launched its first-ever summer camp program last year, Garden Camp. This year Garden Camp is returning and will serve rising 1st-4th grade campers in a full day program and Pre-K and K campers in a half day program, June 3-August 13, with an all-outdoors, immersive program. Garden Camp will connect children to plants through a combination of structured, themed activities and open-ended time to develop curiosity, initiative, imagination, and creativity. Curriculum will revolve around four main themes; gardening, art, wellness, and ecology. Weekly adventure days will take camp groups to walkable destinations in Golden Gate Park and cross-group projects will develop team work and collaboration amongst all participants.

 

Garden Camp Camp Counselors are members of the Learning and Engagement Department, report to the Garden Camp Director, and work closely with the Youth Education Programs team.

Visitor Experience Associate

San Francisco Botanical Garden is looking for an energetic, friendly, plant-loving, and knowledgeable person to work in the Visitor Experience department at San Francisco Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park. The Visitor Experience Associate's prime objective is to help open and close the Garden; greet visitors in a friendly and positive manner; efficiently facilitate sales and transactions; and correctly answer inquires for information about the Garden's collections, programs, and other associated offerings.

Visitor Experience Lead Associate

San Francisco Botanical Garden’s Visitor Services team is the face of the Garden welcoming, orienting, and assisting Garden visitors in a friendly and positive manner. This includes efficiently facilitating sales and transactions and graciously answering inquires for information about the Garden’s collections, programs, and other associated offerings. Our philosophy is to encourage every visitor to return and engage with the opportunities the Garden offers, including becoming members, donors and volunteers. The Lead Agent’s prime objective is to support the Visitor Services Agents in all aspects of operations. The Lead Agent will seamlessly lead the team and maintain general phone and email communications when the Visitor Services Supervisor is offsite.
