Library Card

How to Apply for a Library Card

 

Library applications can be submitted at the library during open hours. If you have any questions please contact the library at [email protected] or 415-661-1316 ext. 403.

 

Circulation privileges are available to current Gardens of Golden Gate Park (GGGP) members, and current teachers at San Francisco schools (pre-K-12 and college/university). Find out more about becoming a SFBG member.

In order to initially obtain borrowing privileges:

  • GGGP members must show proof of current membership, a photo ID, and complete a library card application.

  • Teachers must show proof of current employment (e.g. placement letter or teacher ID), a photo ID, and complete a library card application.

  • With a library card, you can check out books from the main collection, children’s, and parent/teacher resource books.

Circulation Details

  • This is a "Lending on Demand" system: Librarians reserve the right to reserve any book as Library Use Only at any time (usually due to fragility, condition, and/or rarity).

  • Patrons must present their current GGGP membership card or current HCR Library card to check out books.

  • Library cards allow patrons to check out materials from the Main Collection, Children's Collection and Parent/Teacher Collection only; other Library collections do not circulate.

  • Loan Period: 3 weeks

  • Main Collection Books: 3 item limit per account

  • Children and Parent/Teacher Resources: 10 item limit per account

  • Returns: All books must be returned to the Helen Crocker Russell Library during open hours. The Library does not have an after-hours book drop.

  • Renewals: One renewal that extends the due date for an additional week

  • Overdue items: Overdue notices will be sent when an item is overdue

  • Fines: The Library does not charge fines.

  • Lost or damaged items: Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their card. If an item is lost or damaged the Library reserves the right to charge for the cost of repair or replacement, and a processing fee.
