Karl the Fog has returned! Hello San Francisco summer, we missed you!

This morning started off very cool in comparison to the beginning of our week and campers noticed the change right away. Good thing our theme this week is all about adaptation! We adapted to the colder weather by bundling up in our jackets and bringing our backpacks along with us for the day today.

Our theme for the day was Biodiversity is Best. We spent a lot of the day learning about all of the difference that make things stronger.

During our time with AJ we learned about five different types of plants and how their seeds disperse, including the exploding cucumber and the maple leaf. Does your camper remember any other plants discussed? Also with AJ they spent some time around the Children's Garden weeding and watering and tending to some plants.

Did your camper have a chance to see the Pipevine Swallowtail caterpillars? These caterpillars are orange and black and are actually endangered! They also have toxins in their tiny bodies, so we made sure that campers spent some time observing the caterpillars without touching them.

During our time with Spencer campers prepared for our very own climate march that will be taking place tomorrow. They learned some history about Stonewall before making seed bombs that they will have a chance to use. Drawing on our theme of diversity, campers were given an opportunity to talk about their own differences and how people around the world can differ.

Today's snack: oranges and crackers

Questions For My Camper: -Tell me about some different ways that seeds disperse. If you were a plant, how would you want your seeds to disperse?

-How did you prepare for the climate march?

-What is something new that you learned today? Who is someone you could share that with?

We've had a great week so far and we can't believe that tomorrow is already Friday.

If you are interested in learning a little bit more about what we did this week with our groups, we invite you to join us at the Great Meadow on Friday at 3:15p. Our campers will sit in circles with their groups and discuss different things they learned and review different activities they participated in together. We will ask you to sign-out your camper upon arrival to our Open House but you are welcome to stay until your group has completed their circle time. We will begin transitioning from our Open House to Pick-Up around 3:45pm. At this time you are welcome to head out with your camper.

Thank you so much for choosing Garden Camp and sharing another wonderful day with us!
